What is Autism?
Autism is a syndrome of early childhood neural developmental disorder that causes the child to see, feel, smell and hear differently from other people. It is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. It is characterized by abnormal social relationships, language disorders with impaired understanding, rituals (wiping the face repeatedly, rubbing the nose, pulling hair, chewing long hair constantly, etc), compulsive phenomena and uneven intellectual development with mental retardation in most cases if the right treatment is not provided adequately. |

It is best to consider it as a disability on a scale from mild to severe. The extreme form of syndrome may include self-injuries, repetitive, highly unusual and aggressive behavior. Individuals with autism show uneven skill development, with deficits in certain areas and distinct skills in other areas. People with autism are not physically disabled and “look” just like anybody without a disability. Because of the invisible nature of autism, it can be much harder to create awareness and understanding of the condition.

The number of U.S. children diagnosed with autism continues to rise, with new data announced in March 2012 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing that about 1 in 88 children have the disorder –
a 23 percent increase in just two years, and a 78 percent increase since 2000. Left untreated, autism inhibits a child’s development, or growth to such severe as aggressive, or self-injurious conditions.
Causes of Autism:
The imbalance of the brain in autism may be due to various factors: accumulation of certain chemicals in the brain, nuclear radiation, toxins from bacterial and viral infection, toxic exposure from heavy metal, mercury, and silicon, chemically introduced toxins as in vaccination, immunization, etc. genetic factors food and environmental allergies, sudden emotional shocks, witnessing frightful in childhood, or physical problem affecting those parts of the brain that process language and information. There are hardly any human diseases or conditions in which allergic factors are not involved directly or indirectly. Autism is not any different. Clinic trial shows that most of autism individuals are suffering from various allergies.
Oriental medicine believes that allergies and allergy-based disorders are the results of long-term energy disturbances in the energy pathways. Severe allergic reaction can cause severe energy disturbance in one or more energy meridians (channels, or pathways).

About Dr. Lu
